Constitution

Article I

Section I

This organization shall be called Mu Epsilon Delta. It shall function as an honor society and pre-healthcare organization that will operate for the benefit of its members.

Section II

The objectives of this organization shall be:

1. To encourage excellence in health-science scholarship.

2. To stimulate an appreciation of the importance of health-science education in the study of medicine.

3. To promote cooperation and contact between medical and health-science students and educators in developing an adequate program of health-science education.

4. To bind together similarly interested students.

5. To be of local and individual service whenever possible.

6. To familiarize its members with careers in the health-sciences.

Article II

Section I

This organization shall consist of honor society members, associate members, trial members and honorary members. Only honor society members and associate members shall participate in voting.

Section II

1. All members shall be engaged in courses of study pertaining to the health-Sciences.

2. Honor Society requirements:

    i. minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA (with 90 hrs or more) or 90 hrs or more and Deans list or Presidents list recognition for the two quarters immediately prior to membership consideration

    ii. active membership, once obtained, will not be revoked unless GPA falls below a minimum of 2.5

    iii. all honor society members will pay dues of $10/qtr or $25/year. Note: all Honor Society members will have voting privileges.

3. Associate membership requirements:

    i. minimum of 2.3 GPA

    ii. all Associate members will pay dues of $10/year or $25/year. Note: all Associate members will have voting privileges

4. Trial Members:

    i. must attend 4 regularly scheduled meetings to become an associate member

    ii. if interested in Associate membership will inform the secretary after 4 attended meetings

    iii. Associate membership will be given on the last meeting of each quarter

5. Inactive Members:

    i. a member shall be considered inactive if:

        a: GPA falls below 2.3

        b. failure to attend meetings

        c. not a registered student at NGCSU

        d. failure to pay dues by the second meeting of the quarter

    ii. Inactive members shall only be considered inactive for 2 quarters, After such time they will be dismissed.

    iii. Inactive members can be reinstated to Associate Membership once Circumstances leading to inactivity are adjusted or no longer applicable.

6. Honorary Members: Honorary members will include faculty, staff, others that the club deems worthy of membership. Honorary Members will not participate in voting or pay dues.

Section III

1. attendance to all regularly scheduled meetings shall be required. Only two absences for excusable reasons are recommended per quarter. Attendance to speaker's meetings is highly encouraged due to the beneficial nature guest speaker’s have on Mu Epsilon Delta

2. If major conflict arises with a member’s ability to attend meetings, the member should submit in writing his or her conflict to the Executive Committee for review.

3. All members must pay dues by the second regularly scheduled meeting of each quarter, otherwise the member shall be given Inactive status until dues are paid.

Article III

Organization and Government

Section I

The organization shall be governed by a set of chapter by-laws contained in the constitution.

Section II

The organization’s officers shall be President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Historian-Recorder. They shall be elected at a regular meeting governed by the by-laws for each chapter.

Article IV

Greater than 50% of voting membership shall be present to conduct any vote 2/3 of the majority present are needed to pass an amendment

A majority of voters present is needed for all other decisions (general business).

Article V

There will be one permanent faculty advisor for the organization.

Article VI

Dues shall be $10 a quarter or $25 a year per member.

By-Laws

Article I

Section I

Requirements for office:

1. Nominee must have been a voting member for 2 quarters.

2. Nominations will be made at the meeting preceding elections.

3. Officers shall be President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian-Recorder.

Section II

Elections:

1. Elections shall be held in March.

2. New officers shall take office at the first meeting held after the elections.

3. If any officer cannot fulfill duties, an election at large can be held.

Section III

Duties of Officers and Executive Committee

                                                      President:

· Shall preside at all meetings of the organization

· Shall approve dates and designate dates of meetings

· Approve membership to additional committees

· Shall be responsible for induction of new members and officers

· Act as liaison to rest of campus as the official MED representative

· Shall be chairman of Guest Speakers Committee

Vice President

· Serve in absence of President

· Reside as the head of all committees

· Act as liaison between general committees and the Executive Committee

· Serve as Parliamentarian

                           Secretary:

· Shall be responsible for all organizations correspondence (e-mail)

· Shall be responsible for the reading of the minutes at all meetings and shall be responsible for the typing and distribution of the organizations fliers, and maintenance of the bulletin boards

· Shall preside in the absence of the President and Vice-President

· Shall be secretary of the by-laws

· Maintain roster, members’ status take and take attendance at each meeting

                           Treasurer:

· Shall be responsible for collection of dies and inform secretary of all unpaid dues

· Shall be the purchasing agent for the organization

· Shall prepare financial statements for the presentation at regularly scheduled business meetings and a written statement at the end of each quarter

· Shall keep records

· Shall be the chairman of the Fundraising Committee

                           Historian/Recorder:

· Shall be responsible for publicity on campus

· Shall maintain a scrapbook

· Shall be responsible of initiation information and the constitution

· Will be chairman of the Advertising/Recruiting Committee

                           Executive Committee:

· Shall consist of all elected officers

· Shall establish quarterly goals and schedules

· Shall approve absences from organizations meetings and required meetings and events

Article V

New Legislation

Amendments to by-laws must be submitted for consideration to the Executive Committee a minimum of two weeks before this legislation can be acted upon by the organization. Standing rules must be submitted for consideration the Executive committee a minimum of one week before the legislation can be acted upon by the organization. General business can be approved by a majority vote of the members present at a regularly scheduled meeting.
